my mom waited in line for 8 hrs to get me tickets to see the Clash at Bonds, i was 13 & had to go to school. saw them at the saturday matinee ( my parents came too). One of the best days of my life!!!!
Thank you for posting this “keystoyourheart!” I had the good fortune of walking by the Ticketron kiosk at Willowbrook Mall in Wayne, NJ when these tix went on sale. I was 17 and remember the anxiety upon hearing Bond’s had double-sold, but the ecstasy of my high school crush astonished that I’d scored 2 for the Saturday, June 4 show. What a cherished memory; what an event in music history. Where are you now, Jonell?
I was there the first night at Bonds. The opening act was Grandmaster Flash was booed off the stage and pelted with debris. I remember the fire dept. counting bodies as we exited the club. My ears rang for the next 3 days.
im not ****** for calling americans yanks, thats what americans are, yanks. its not meant to be offensive and you cant be much of a joe strummer fan if you look down on those who use the word, the media in general wherever it is based is pretty stupid and only after one thing, but lets be honest englands been around alot longer than america, america’s like a small boy wheras englands the wise old man
Yes, that was Kosmo. But Listen2Strummer shouldn’t be a bigot, calling Americans “Yanks.” The English news media would probably been just as ignorant to who is who.
Actually, the opening acts for the Clash DID get booed and pelted with things, throughout their sets, no matter how good they were. I recall, at Bonds, and also in Central Park, the booing and pelting got so bad, the Clash danced onto the stage in the middle of the opening act song, at the end, all wearing hats way down low, and rallied around to sing with them. At first the aud didn’t realize who they were, and then they caught on and went wild.
Wow…they spelled Paul’s last name wrong, they called some other cat Joe Strummer, they implied that the Clash’s politics were naive or off base when they’re actually spot on…and then worst of all, some narrow-minded douchebags pelted opening acts hand-picked by the Clash w/ trash probably b/c they don’t truly get the Clash’s worldview and have some racial/musical hang-ups. How many times can a great band be insulted here?

If time travel were a possibility, the first destination for me would be one or more of the Bonds gigs in 81′ ^_^

Excellent. The Clash in Bonds perfected Rock n’ Roll. It never was, or has been, as perfect as it was then and there.

I was someones girlfriend at the time, and was at Bonds every night. I remember that press conference at Tin Pan Alley bar near Times Square.
