How many bonds does Sulfur forms to ahieve stability?

Minitrue asked:

In terms of bonding, I see sulfur sometimes form 4 single bonds with surrounding atoms, and sometimes form 6 single bonds. How do you know which one to follow when you are given the formula for a molecule?

When does sulfur form 6 single bonds in a molecule?

Thx
Does a lone pair of electrons count as a single bond for sulfur?

You need to count the valence electrons of all the atoms and determine and then draw a lewis structure. S can have an expanded octet so it can take more than 4 bonds depending on the # of valence electrons.
